Ibrahim Afellay had a good debut for FC Barcelona back in 2010 when Guardiola was in charge of the team. However, he injured himself and hasn’t been performing well ever since. He kind of got sidelined and then loaned out to Schalke.
He sustained an injury there as well, and it hasn’t been good for him. When last season came to an end, he returned to Barcelona and has been training with them. However, he isn’t part of the squad at all.
The new manager Tata Martino can’t really count on him because still hasn’t recovered well from his injuries and he’s currently in a “status quo”. It would be good to bet online and see when will Afellay start to play again.
When he fully gets fit and returns from his injury, Martino might include him in the squad, although the competition is very strong and it is very doubtful that he’ll get a chance.
Of course, it is important for Afellay to play, because it will be hard for him to return back to Barcelona where the competition is huge. The positions that he plays are crowded — Barca have Tello, Alexis, Pedro, Fabregas, Iniesta, Xavi, etc.
He’s been working very hard on his recovery, and traveled between Gelsenkirchen, Amsterdam and Barcelona. He’s been treated by the best doctors and it seems that they have done a great job.
As things stand now, Afellay will not go back to Barcelona and Schalke will probably keep him. If they don’t keep him, he will most probably be loaned out to another club.
Champions League has finally returned. February 14th was the night when the second part of the CL begun — the knockout phase. The first game to be played was between the champions, Barcelona, and Bayer Leverkusen, a German team. The game was pretty boring — Bayer simply parked the bus, while Barcelona dominated the match and eventually won 1:3. Alexis scored a brace, with Messi adding one.
Barcelona has had some injury worries for quite some time. Xavi couldn’t play (injury), Keita was away (ACN), while Afellay was injured. Therefore, if you like to bet on football, it would be best not to bet on Afellay to score, because he’s not playing, and he doesn’t score often anyway.
Ibrahim Afellay was a very cheap buy, having in mind the quality of the player. He was brought from PSV for €3 million, and is already showing that he is worth every cent. What makes Afellay great for Barca is that he can play in various positions (central midfield, left and right flank), so Guardiola is very pleased. He already played half a dozen of games and showed that he is Barca material — very technical, wanting the ball, great touch.
